Organic, recycled, handmade: what evidence belongs to a claim?

How to connect organic, recycled, handmade and origin claims to their supporting records.

Start with the exact words

List each claim as it appears on the product, packaging or website. Does it describe the material, one component, the making process or the whole item?

Check the coverage

Look for matching product names, supplier identity, dates and scope. A certificate for one facility or material does not automatically apply to every finished product.

Record what is declared

Supplier statements may be useful, but they should remain distinguishable from test reports and third-party certificates.

Keep uncertainty visible

An absent or expired record is a gap to resolve. Make the limitation clear internally before deciding what to communicate.

Revisit when the product changes

A new supplier, material or batch can change the evidence behind the words. Link claim review to the product change process.

Apply this to one of your own products.
