Your first product passport: a data checklist.

A practical starting list for product identity, supplier data, proof and publication.

Choose a useful pilot

Pick one product or a small collection. Write down the question you want the passport to answer and the audience who will use it.

Define product identity

Decide whether the record sits at SKU, batch or item level. Keep a stable identifier and record the relationship between product variants and production batches.

Map information sources

List the people and records behind materials, production, origin and care. Identify what is held internally and what must come from suppliers.

Attach evidence carefully

Record document owner, date, scope, validity and the product relationship. Flag a supplier declaration as a declaration; do not treat it as independent certification.

Agree what can be public

Separate customer information from confidential supplier records. Review every claim before publishing and agree who owns future updates.

Apply this to one of your own products.
